The Fantastic First Grade

Micro-School

The main focus in my first grade classroom is on an engaging, hands-on approach to learning, tailored to each child’s individual needs. My goal is to promote critical thinking skills, independence, and mastery-based learning. To align with the expectations of the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, I adhere to the Common Core State Standards and utilize research-based methods.

Taught by Kimberly Szatkowski

Background Check Confirmed

Hi! My name is Kimberly Szatkowski but my students call me Ms. Ski. For the past seven years, I’ve been a kindergarten teacher, a substitute teacher, a teacher’s assistant, and a tutor. I have a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education (0 - 2nd grade) and I have a teaching license in Washington as well.

I love to teach children social-emotional skills, foster a love for learning in them, and support them as they develop into kind, compassionate human beings. I also have a real passion for teaching children how to read. From a very young age, I adored books and took pleasure in reading. I was particularly fond of Dr. Seuss books and poetry. My favorite book was Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. I carried that book around with me everywhere I went!

In addition to my classroom teaching experience, I am also a proud mother of a thoughtful, witty 6-year-old daughter and we’re happy to call Washington our home. We came here for a short visit and fell in love with the gorgeous, lush green mountains and decided to stay. I’ve traveled to many other countries and enjoyed learning about other cultures. But after seeing the world, I decided Washington is the perfect place for us.
