West Seattle's Pioneering Forest School! We offer small classes and personalized learning for each child through a world of exploration and curiosity, and wonder--all outdoors.
Currently have openings for morning half day and full day. Children must be potty trained for this program.*
This is a nature based learning program with all the "pre-skills" from art, science, math and social emotional learning happening in in our outdoor classroom. This program takes place in Schmitz Park and Alki Playfield in beautiful West Seattle and offers more than the traditional classroom with daily adventures.
We believe that children are intrinsically motivated to learn by exploring the world around them. We help foster a sense of wonder, to guide rather than compel, and to provide room for possibility with a personalized curriculum (we believe in supporting each child's interests versus standardized classes). We allow the space and support for 4-7 year olds to grow into citizens of the world, with a respect for the world and their friends.
With the help of our educators, our families, and our students we are working to create a program that arises out of the unique social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of each student within this particular environment. Our small class sizes allow educators to help each student-- they act as a guide; helping children to cultivate senses that are attuned to the affordances of their surroundings during a developmentally crucial time. Daily experimentation on an individual and group level is important to foster a love of science as well as social and emotional development and self-regulation.
ABOUT OUR TEACHERS This program has an outdoor educator lead, a support aide and we also have a wonderful teaching staff in West Seattle consisting of seven educators, two assistants, and a program director, all with experience in early childhood education.
