A Reggio inspired play-based learning focused on building social emotional skills. Using open-ended materials and developmentally appropriate activities to support motor development, grow relationships, and encourage imagination, creativity, and problem solving. Children will be given opportunities to experiment with sensory materials, practice a variety of art mediums, and explore the outdoors. Can offer support for children enrolled in distance learning, in which case activities will be provided to supplement distance learning curriculum.
ACTIVITIES:
Reggio inspired play-based learning focused on building social emotional skills. Using open-ended materials and developmentally appropriate activities to support motor development, grow relationships, and encourage imagination, creativity, and problem solving. Activities: Open exploration: Allowing child-led free play with rotating materials revolving around the theme we are currently exploring. Materials will often be open-ended loose parts that encourage imaginative play.
Art experiences: The Reggio belief in ‘The 100 Languages’ says that children express themselves through many different mediums, including art. An opportunity for children to work with materials like crayons, pencils, markers, water color, clay, and more.
Sensory exploration: Sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain, encourages fine motor development, supports language development, and strengthens problem solving skills. I will offer time for the children to explore playdough, slime, shaving cream, water, and more.
Big body games: Includes music and dancing, running, jumping, and climbing. Builds gross motor skills. Also great for smoothing transitions and getting wiggles out!
Outdoor time: Getting out and connecting with nature and the community is a priority (weather permitting). We will explore the backyard, take walks in the neighborhood, and possibly go on field trips to nearby parks.
Hello! My name is Sage and I am a former preschool teacher with a passion for early childhood education. I worked for two years at a Reggio Emilia inspired school for infants and toddlers and have 5+ years of childcare experience. I believe children are little scientists, constantly experimenting and learning through play. I am a hands-on teacher who likes to play alongside children, encourages them to explore (safely), and loves to create curriculum. I love offering sensory activities to children, and don’t mind getting messy! I can offer academic and emotional support for K-3 children enrolled in distance learning. I look forward to hearing from you!
Sage is an amazing caregiver and I highly recommend her. Sage began taking care of our infant daughter at 3 months and has also taken care of our toddler and school aged children. She deftly handles all four of our children at once or in smaller groups. Sage is a wonderful caregiver for a baby. She is so kind and patient, and her skills are very strong. She comes with years of baby experience and it shows. She can do it all -- developmentally appropriate play, feeding, diapering, sleep -- she knows tricks that even I, an experienced mom of four, forgot or never learned. My baby is full of happy smiles when I return home. Sage is a lovely presence to have in the home. She is cheerful and has a can-do spirit that I really appreciate. She is always on time and amazingly flexible regarding scheduling. She is also a great communicator. She gets back to me quickly no matter what method of communicating we use. I completely trust Sage with the care of my children. She's one of a kind!
I am looking for a family who would like to host a microschool in their home. I live in South Seattle and can commute as far North as Capitol Hill and as far South as Burien.
