PHILOSOPHY

I plan to facilitate learning using the Whole Brain Teaching approach which promotes a high-energy, hyper-focused methods using game-like challenges, key words, and motivational methods, while eliciting continuous spoken response from the students to keep them fully engaged every minute. We will all play, sing, laugh and learn together in a family environment where social and emotional needs are recognized and met, life skills and manners are taught and expected and “Glamma” love is abundant!

I believe educators should… *Create a classroom where all students are included, valued and challenged. *Build a community with students, families, caretakers, and other educators to promote communication & collaboration! *Implement routines, model explicit expectations, and exhaust preventative, supportive, and positive behavior strategies! *Ensure content is accurate, scaffolded, differentiated to meet the needs of all students, aligned to standards and linked to something real in student’s lives. *Choose instructional strategies that are hands-on and student centered, while promoting authentic learning and cultural competency. *Use formative assessment tools to monitor student progress and use data to create student goals and to drive instruction. *Keep learning creative and active while making time for each individual student. *Stay current with educational research. Background Check Confirmed

Hi! I'm Ms. Cathi!

I'm a native Floridian, born and raised in the sunshine state. I love the beaches, lakes, pools and sun! I moved to Washington in 2019 to be a "Glamma" when my granddaughter Mila was born. She and my grandson Michael are the loves of my life, along with their parents. I raised 3 amazing children; Brandon (34), graduate of West Point Military Academy and currently a Green Beret in the US Army, Jenni (32), adopted from the Philippines and currently a medical billing/customer service rep., and Megan (29), graduate of the University of Central Florida and an award winning wedding photographer here in Washington.

While raising my three children, I took 19 years off from teaching in public schools. This allowed me to be very active and engaged in their education. I wouldn’t trade that time for anything! I strongly believe in parent involvement in education and work hard to keep parents of my students informed and engaged. I wrote my masters thesis on the subject, therefore I have numerous ideas and suggestions to get and keep parents involved.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Family & Consumer Science from Florida State University and a master’s degree in Educational Administration & Supervision from National Louis University. I am a certified teacher in the state of Florida as well as here in Washington. I have taught in all three grade level schools including elementary, middle and high school. But my passion is with the kinder kids; Preschool and Kindergarten! I was evaluated as an innovative teacher in 2019, after completion of seven years as a Kindergarten teacher and team leader.

In my spare time, I enjoy hiking and being outdoors and exploring my new surroundings. I am falling in love with the mountains! I also enjoy baking, sewing, crafts of all kinds and scrapbooking. I love to relax and read novels, magazines, self-help books and children’s stories. There is so much we can learn from others, young and old! I am a lifetime learner and strive to instill that in everyone I meet!

Program Location Details

I plan to teach in my home, although I am open to teaching in another location where there are 6 to 8 students in need. I currently live in DuPont, where there are sidewalks, parks and trails for outdoor activities. My home is a short drive from Lakewood, Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater and the areas that surround those cities. I have two small dachshunds, Belle and Beau. They were raised in a home with infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers so they are great with kids.
