The Seeds of Knowledge Academy program will help to develop your child's essential skills to an advanced level that will give them a head start on their educational journey. The program utilizes a research-based approach to learning that focuses on inquiry-based and hands-on activities. Child development theories and brain research are synthesized to create a unique model that works on developing age-appropriate skills in the following learning domains: social and emotional, physical, language and literacy, mathematics and reasoning, science, and creativity. Parents are provided with weekly updates about the week's lessons and their child's progress and performance. Organic and nutritional snacks are provided. Please provide a packed lunch for your child. In response to the needs following COVID-19, this program is hosted in the house of a participating parent in order to provide smaller class sizes with minimal exposure, a comfortable setting for your children and the children of your fellow community members, and more individualized instruction and interaction. STEAM Stations & Experiments: Activities that focus on developing skills in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. These hands-on activities allow children to explore while they learn and expand their knowledge base. Make & Play activities: Designed to encourage children to use their imagination with critical thinking to express themselves and problem-solve. These activities allow children to apply new knowledge through play. Letters & Phonics: 3 letters are featured per month to develop a deep understanding of the alphabet at the conclusion of the academic year. These activities support and encourage emergent reading skills. Story Time: Age Appropriate books are used to help develop and encourage emergent reading skills. During this time, children are also encouraged to express their thoughts and feelings in relation to the story in order to promote schema and critical thinking. Communication & Vocabulary: Age-appropriate games are implemented to practice and encourage the use of vocabulary words pertaining to the week's theme. These activities allow children to practice using new vocabulary in a fun, relaxed environment. Emergent Writing & Fine motor skills: Children are given the opportunity to practice their emergent writing and fine motor skills through activities that allow them to express themselves or respond to questions through scribbling and drawing. These activities promote the building of schema as children are encouraged to connect these activities to the lesson's theme. Counting & Number Concepts: Manipulatives are used to help children count, sort, problem-solve, and expand on other math skills. Each month features 3 numbers so that a solid understanding of the numbers 1-20 is established by the end of the academic year. Reasoning & Logic: Children are encouraged to problem-solve through the use of manipulatives that are focused on shape. Age-appropriate logic games also work to foster cooperation and social skills. Music, Rhythm, Dance, & Music: A music and movement program with theme-based songs is used in conjunction with homemade instruments and other props. These activities promote creative thinking, physical development, and social skills.

Taught by Jenna Burger

Background Check Confirmed

My name is Jenna Burger. I am a licensed teacher with a passion for encouraging creativity and imagination. I graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2014 with my Bachelors of Science in Education. Upon graduating, I spent 6 years in the classroom working closely with students to develop their language skills. I have also spent the last 3 years as a Nanny/Childcare Provider during the summer months. In May of 2020 I received my Masters of Science in Linguistics. While my specialty is developing language skills, I am experienced and skilled in developing enriching curriculum that sparks creativity and imagination while tailoring it to each student's individual needs.

Patti Phillips (Parent)

Jenna's work is both interactive and engaging. She uses rhythm, rhyme, and music to teach, as well as structure and consistency. Her tone of voice is gentle and encouraging. She speaks to children on their eye level to eliminate the feeling of intimidation. With Jenna, students learn through fun, stimulating activities.
