At The Rainbow Preschool, our focus is a well-rounded curriculum with art, outdoors, music, social interactions and we encourage talking about emotions and mindfulness. We have a great backyard that’s fully enclosed and we’ll spend plenty of time going on walks and being mindful and observant of what’s around. Lunch is a wonderful social time and will be included in the program so each family will be asked to bring a lunch for their child each day. When kids are enrolled in The Rainbow Preschool, our goal is that children are learning new things and pushing their own boundaries, and that they end up doing more than thought they could!
We have lots of toys for children to discover and play with on their own. We will have outdoor play everyday and will take walks around our neighborhood. We will have opportunities for the children to present their thoughts and ideas to the rest of the class. We discuss and learn about our own emotions along with looking at emotional cues from each other. We learn basic letters, numbers, shapes and seasons in a fun and fluid process if this is of importance to parents. We also will eat lunch together and have story time.
I have been surrounded by children my entire life, with many younger cousins visiting our house in Seattle throughout my childhood. My earliest teachers were my Mother and Grandmother, who believed every child was a gift that should be nutured and cherished. I have taught preschool these past few years, first at a private, in-home setting and then at The Cottage School as part of Gatewood Elementary. I grew up in the Seward Park Neighborhood, as a second generation Seattlite surrounded by Aunts, Uncles and cousins. I currently live in West Seattle with my two elementary age daughters.
