My vision for this micro-school is to work closely with students (and families!) enrolled in remote learning to ensure that they are getting the individualized instruction they need as well as incorporate a variety of fun, engaging enrichment activities and lessons to inspire a greater depth of learning.
I am looking for a pod in the Renton area, with at least 4 kids (preferably 4-6 kids), to teach in a micro-school in a parent's home.
My intent is to make sure that each child successfully completes the requirements mandated by their respective schools and meets the state standards for learning. This includes personal instruction and assistance with your child’s remote schoolwork as well as additional enrichment opportunities to enhance learning and encourage a more in-depth understanding of subjects. Enrichment opportunities may come in many forms and will be tailored to the specific needs of the students and the group. Examples of enrichment lessons may include (but are not limited to): Hands-on tactile and kinesthetic activities Movement and music Project-Based Learning Literature circles Leveled Reading Dramatic play Academic games Art opportunities And more!
My goal is not only to offset the loss of in-school instruction, but to actually enhance their experience by tailoring the lessons to meet their needs and to engage students in the learning process with the individualized attention only afforded by micro-schools. I will, to the best of my ability, work with each child’s assigned teacher to create a harmonious learning process for each student. I will assist and enhance remote learning and supplement additional instruction when appropriate.
Family involvement is such an important part of a student’s education and development and I am excited for the opportunity to establish open communication with all parents, guardians, and families.
COVID-19 UPDATES AND PROCEDURES Washing hands upon entering or re-entering the program from outside, sanitizing surfaces, environment and toys, and keeping small social circles.
Hello! My name is Kelsey Nolan and I am a licensed teacher, travel enthusiast, and avid reader living in Renton, WA. I attended Whitworth University in Spokane where I completed my teacher training and received my B.A. in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Reading. After graduating I set off for the adventure of a lifetime teaching English in village schools for two years in the Kingdom of Tonga in the South Pacific as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Once my service was complete, I hopped over to New Zealand and spent a fun-filled year working and traveling around the country in a campervan. Now that I am back home in the beautiful PNW, I am excited to share my love for education and literacy with others!
As a certified elementary teacher with over eight years of working with children in various capacities, I understand the necessity to foster relationships with students and build a foundation of trust and stability for children. I have a passion for youth development and my experiences with teaching, child care, coaching, tutoring, and being a camp counselor have only amplified my enthusiasm over the years! These experiences have equipped me with an endless stream of children’s songs and a LOVE for children’s books.
A few of my favorite children’s books are: Sulwe, We Are Water Protectors, The Hike, The Day the Crayons Quit, and Harry Potter
