Program Description

Students are not meant to be learning in front of screens for 7+ hours a day. I will be supporting your child by helping them to organize their day and create a working schedule for the school year. I will work to integrate movement breaks into this schedule and--time and safety factors permitting--conduct field trips around topics of interests and other recreational activities. This is to ensure students get maximum exposure to new ideas and to break up the monotony. Examples of this include: Hiking in local nature areas. Visiting Native American centers of culture and learning. Visiting museums of art, nature, and history. My program is centered around support. I will come to you to tutor your student(s) and help them with the classwork for their school district's classes and curriculum. My approach to teaching is a simple three steps: Theory. Application. Iteration What this looks like is teaching the skill or concept in a small packet of knowledge. We then move into structured play that incorporates that skill, allowing the student to practice and show their understanding. What the student creates can be used for constructive criticism, showing the student how they may improve. Then the cycle repeats with more complex skills woven in.

PRICE: $200-250/week/child (with flexibility depending on pod size)

To enroll your student in this program please reach out to me via email or phone to schedule in-depth conversation about the program and your family's needs. If we are a good fit for each other, you will be able to enroll your student(s) online for our fall program.

Background Check Confirmed

Hello! Most of my students call me Mr. Kuzma or Mr. K and I am a born and raised Washingtonian.

From a young age I have had a love of history, and that seemed the logical course to study once I went off to college. However, I didn't have a strong direction, and after being asked to tutor students, I found a great love of helping others to succeed. From this focus I received my bachelors in history and a year later my masters in teaching.

After graduating I traveled the world, visiting countries in Europe and later Asia. It was during this time that I began to develop my unique educational style where I realized no two people were the same but they all had similar wants and needs. The need to create and the need to move. This shaped my philosophy of engaged learning through practice and action. Learning comes faster and stays longer when the skill is put into use immediately.

I have worked in public schools for six years and I have learned a lot about what engages and fascinates. I believe every student is uniquely capable and has a specific set of skills in which they excel. By focusing learning through the lens of these skills, they may be shown that even subjects which they "hate" or are "bad at" have merit. The confidence to face the struggle and the ability to see failure not as the end, but as a stepping stone to success, is the mindset I work to instill in every student.
