A nature based program focused on learning through play. Classes starting September 9th
Hello! I'm Christine! I have been working with preschoolers, both as a preschool teacher and as an Educational Director for over a decade and am so excited to be starting Little Island Playschool. Our program will be mostly outdoors in the yard where children can spend time exploring and interacting with nature. We will plant things and watch them grow, observe and document how our nature classroom changes as the seasons change and grow as a community of learners. We focus on learning through play, and will focus our projects & studies on topics that are of interest to the children and relevant to their lives.
At Little Island Playschool children will explore nature and the seasons in all kinds of weather! Children will participate in circle time where we sing songs, read stories and learn how to be a part of a community of learners. There will be time for free play and exploration as well as time spend working on projects as a group and individually.
School will be from 9am-11am
My name is Christine! I have been working with children as a preschool teacher and education director for over a decade. I have a BA in Early Childhood Education and a Master's in Early Childhood Curriculum and Instruction from Bank Street College of Education. My philosophy of education can be summed up using a quote by my favorite author and educator Jonathan Kozol.“...teachers of young children do one of the best things that there is to do in life: bring joy and beauty, mystery and mischievous delight into the hearts of little people in their years of greatest curiosity.” (Kozol 2007).
Most of our days will be spent outside in our huge yard (3/4 of an acre!) Unless the weather is way too cold or dangerous, than we will head inside.
