Socio-emotional development and teaching "grit"
About the program and philosophy:
Based off of the Kristen Bell (AKA Frozen’s Princess Anna) children’s book entitled “The World Needs More Purple People”, the name reflects the core of the program: to build a community where we find and cherish what we have in common; to embrace and accept what makes us different.
The program is designed to begin teaching children how to question and explore information, including more introspective self-awareness. Using Montessori and Waldorf philosophies, activities will emphasize self-directed learning, creativity and critical thinking. Children will learn through play and experience. Children are given the opportunity to cooperate in the daily schedule and activities to ensure a more personal, thus better understanding, of skills and of subjects.
We focus on children’s learning and practicing traits of empathy, respect and kindness. We try to accomplish this by guiding them through the trials and difficulties of developing emotional regulation. We give them the language and the skills to talk about emotions, especially negative ones, using methods of conflict resolutions and cognitive behavioral therapy. We encourage children to talk through emotions and consequences of their actions so they can understand the greater world around them.
Every session will incorporate movement, such as music and dance, and as much outside time as the environment allows.
The program focuses on promoting the development of independent, confident children and gaining emotional maturity and empathy.

COVID Procedures:
We will follow the current King County Protocols. Hand washing will be done in any transitions from outside to inside, before meals and anytime that the activity warrants. Because multiple families are highly encouraged to participate, a scheduled initial meeting (virtual or in person) will be done to discuss specific protocols to insure that all parties agree on the protocol to be used mutually. Any signs of illness will require absence until symptoms are resolved.
Cassy Fok was born and raised Madison,WI. She has a B.S. in molecular biology and a M.S. in toxicology. She has over 10 years experience in childcare, including with special needs and autistic children. When she’s not with children, she is probably with her rescue greyhound, doing a crossword puzzle, reading, cooking or just outside. She believes all activities are opportunities to learn something new. She truly believes that helping children makes the world a better place.
“Be the change you want to see in the world” - Mahatma Gandhi
Cassy’s favorite Children’s books are: Matilda by Roald Dahl, The Lorax by Dr. Seuss and Llama Llama Red Pajamas by Anna Dewdney.
Cassy loves any music that involves movement and dance. She has been known to have dance parties to “Baby Shark”, “The Chicken Dance”, and “The Limbo”.
I loved listening into Cassy's conversations with my 4.5 year old and 2 year old. They were always so creative and pushed my kiddos to think more critically about what they were saying, doing and feeling.
