A micro-class of just four children led by Teacher Sandy in a schoolhouse near Alki/Admiral.
This program will focus on personalized learning for each child, led by a wonderfully caring educator with years of experience and one of the founding educators on the WEEKDAYS team.
Students will have the benefit of friendships and socialization, an ultra-small class size, and quite a bit of individual attention in a tutor-like experience. There will also be a focus on plenty of outdoor learning and adventures in Schmitz Park and the Alki playfield in the afternoons, social and emotional growth, as well as honing the foundations of writing, math, science and art through project-based learning.
The ultimate goal is to foster reading, writing, math and science skills, and also helping each student become successful, lifelong learners.
We'll use the base curriculum modules from Columbia Virtual Academy (SPS remote schooling option) supplemented with hands-on activities to bring the lessons to life. Our focus is project-based learning, simulations, and traditional school district offered personalized learning modules.
This program follows all CDC guidelines, has an air purifier in the room. Students take temperatures upon arrival and wear masks when indoors (and unless there's a mask break when they can be socially distanced outside).
ABOUT THE EDUCATORS
Teacher Sandy is a strong believer in the power of positive thinking in the classroom and promotes that with her students. She also loves to play and continually help the kids improve through focusing on their personal interests and superpowers. She brings a passion for theatre, dance, and art with plenty of time for children to focus on their own passions and interests and time to play outside.
She has nine years of experience working with children from a formal setting to YMCA drop in, after school care. She's even led programs for children on a cruise ship.
Alki Beach cottage schoolhouse sits next to the opening of Schmitz Park in a quiet side street, tucked up near Alki Elementary. The schoolhouse is accessible to Alki Elementary field and Schmitz Park without crossing any streets and just 1.5 blocks to Alki Beach.
